At each of our luncheon meetings, BCRTA members are given the opportunity to contribute to two important funds. The IRTA Scholarship is a fund of the Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation. The Foundation gives the money for eight college scholarships each year. This past year they gave $2000 scholarships to eight Indiana college juniors or seniors that are education majors. A student from each of the eight Areas of the IRTA is chosen. The scholarships are presented at the Representative Assembly each year.
- To apply for this scholarship, please visit the IRTA Scholarship page for guidelines and application information.
The second fund is the Carol Walker Fund that is distributed by the Brown County Community Foundation. This fund grants active teachers money for projects in their classrooms. This was established in honor of Dr. Carol Walker, a former Superintendent of Brown County Schools and an active member of Brown County Retired Teachers Association. For the past two years, BCRTA has been offered a matching gift up to $500 to the Carol Walker Fund by an anonymous donor.
- To contribute to this endowment, send a check to the Brown County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 191, Nashville, IN 47448 with “Carol Walker Thank A Teacher” referenced on the check. Contributions in honor of a family member, friend, or favorite teacher are welcomed.
- To apply for a grant from this fund, contact the Brown County High School for an application.
